VINTAGE ARTICLE!! Cynthia Nixon, Mary-Louise Parker

VINTAGE!!Serious Actresses Like To Dress Up Too!

C
ynthia Nixon and Mary-Louise Parker are known to critics and die-hard fans for their acting chops and have even rewarded for their talents; both have a Tony and Emmy. Nixon and Parker became household names for their work on comedies, yet mostly take on meaty, serious roles; like their award winning turns on Broadway. Not only are Parker and Nixon fabulous actresses, the ladies do know a thing or two about appearing on a red carpet, whether at award show or movie and theatre premieres. Both are fans of designer Gilles Mendel, the mastermind behind French fashion house J.Mendel. During their countless jaunts down the red carpet each has been known to wear celebrated designers like Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenbrg, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen, Calvin Klein and Catherine Malandrino.
Cynthia Nixon was not always the fashionista she is today. To prepare for her role as the red-headed conservatively dressed, yet stylish lawyer, Miranda Hobbs, Nixon went through a fashion boot camp to learn how to dress, wear heels and do her hair. Not to mention being prepared to make changes to said hair. Naturally a blond, Nixon dyed her hair that infamous red for the star making role. Attending runway shows during New York fashion week, became a must on her to do list; seeing the likes of Bill Blass, Chaiken and Ralph Lauren (a designer she has been caught wearing on multiple occasions).

Mary-Louise Parker may not have starred in a fashion focused TV show, but that doesn’t mean she is out of the fashion loop. Having been spotted attending fashion week runway shows like Tommy Hilfiger, Chaiken, Dennis Basso and of course J. Mendel. Since both Parker and Nixon call New York City home it is not surprising they have been seen more than once sitting next to each other in the front row during fashion week. For an actress who started her career on the stage in period pieces wearing corsets, she is no stranger to clothing through the ages. Even if she prefers the more modern roles, Parker is one of those actors that can fit into any time period or era, as evidenced by her performances in “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”.
