It's the Primetime Emmy's and we are here to admire the fashions that stunned the red carpet.

The Primetime Emmy's: Color, Color and more Color!

The Primetime Emmys have come and gone but the red carpet looks will stay with us forever. The women, men and kids from our favorite TV shows stepped it up and really brought their a-game, showing off some stunning head-to-toe looks. It was a night full of color, Hollywood glamour and risks that paid off tenfold.

As we are sure you noticed, the biggest trend of the night was color… and lots of it. Over the past year, more and more A-listers are opting for bold and bright looks to wear on the red carpet, even if black came out on top at the Emmy’s this year; because let’s face it, black or white gowns will always be around. With 2017 being the year of pink it was no surprise to see the hue’s many shades on display, with red following close behind. Silver, greens, blues, yellow, purple and orange also made strong showings, while two ladies, Zoë Kravitz and Tessa Thompson went straight up rainbow, wearing striped, multi-colored gowns.

A sea of color may have made waves on Emmy night but our ladies didn’t let their looks stand on color alone. Oh, no, some rocked trends that started last year like prints and suits. Velvet, tulle, feathers, belts, cut-outs, one-shoulder silhouettes and tea-length gowns all made themselves known. Then there were the trends becoming red carpet staples; sparkly, embellished gowns, plunging necklines and sheer fabrics.

The men also had a good evening with many looking dapper in your traditional black tuxes and blue suiting. But we’d like to praise the gents who thought outside box. Some men, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lakeith Stanfield and Tituss Burgess went with color whereas others wore velvet, printed and detailed jackets. Quite a few men made the black and white tux a trend. The few who stood out from the crowd included Brandon Flynn sporting an all light blue suit, Deon Cole and RuPaul donning head-to-toe plaid and diamond prints respectively, winner Donald Glover rocking a purple Gucci tux and last but not least Ron Cephas-Jones in a black and white tux and undone bowtie showing us all what cool and classy looks like.

Overall it was a fabulous red carpet and our fingers are crossed these stylish looks inspire award show red carpets in 2018!

Checks and Plaids Everywhere

Plaids, checkered, buffalo check and gingham are a staple of any fashionistas closet. Keep your closet updated!

Ah, the iconic Plaid, one of the most successful and popular patterns worldwide. It is safe to say all fashionistas have at least one article of clothing in the fabric. From the Wild West to the Pendleton shirts worn by The Beach Boys to grunge, to hipsters, some form of plaid has been a major trend. Today, we see plaid gowns, dresses, suits, coats, blouses, blazers, pants and skirts making their way down the runways and red carpet. With subsets like checks, gingham and buffalo it is the one print to always be “in”.

What is the history of plaid you ask, well, we are happy to oblige. The plaid patterns we know today were originally called Tartan. They harken back thousands of years to days of yore. Tartan described the pattern and color used to differentiate the Scottish clans. When British and American manufacturers got in on the fun they chose to call the pattern plaid. The symbolic meaning of each distinctive family was then lost to history. Meanwhile in Scotland, plaid was known as a winter cloak that came in the same colors. Before becoming popular to outsiders, tartan was first adopted by the Scottish military during James Francis Edward Stuart’s rebellion against the English monarchy in 1714 (think bestselling book and popular TV show Outlander).

All Covered Up!

Long dresses, long sleeves and high necklines have been on trend all year.

Throughout 2017 a more modest approach to fashion has been popular on the runways, red carpets and in stores. A high neck, long sleeves and longer dresses have been a major trend, even during the spring and summer months. Having just seen a resurgence of Victorian period clothing this is coming as no surprise.

We see fewer plunging necks and more high collars and necklines with ruffled, bell or just plain long sleeves. Hemlines dropped to a tea, ankle and floor length. Fluid dresses with whimsy and romanticism by the likes of Gucci and Valentino, are becoming a go to for our favorite fashionistas. Above are some of the best covered up looks we haven’t already showcased in our deep dives into the red carpet. And make sure to find a few items for your closet the next time you go shopping!
