Great Days: Fashionistas invade the Indies

The Independent Spirit awards have always been a party that just happens to hand out awards. How can it not be when the backdrop is California’s own sunny Santa Monica beach? It makes sense the attire would fit the venue; relaxed, fun and let’s not forget, stylish.

With actresses like Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’O and Reese Witherspoon to name a few, it’s no wonder we saw some really fabulous and polished looks. Cate scored with a Roksanda Ilincic Lea dress, looking chic Reese wore a Giambattista Valli Couture top and skirt, and Lupita nailed it with a Stella McCartney short jumpsuit, showing off some seriously stunning legs! Bright colors reigned supreme and we saw a variation between the cocktail and maxi dress.

While most men cruised the blue carpet in tailored, casual suits, a few detractors caught our eye! Jared Leto went with Saint Laurent black jeans, a leather jacket and to complete the grunge look a red flannel shirt tied around his waist. Indie King John Waters did not disappoint in the eccentric department, sporting a red plaid suit jacket, brown plaid pants and a red tie.

We at MyCloset love this awards show, it allows Hollywood’s best and brightest to show up in laid-back yet sophisticated looks during a very gown and tux heavy season.
