Manus x Machina

Let's remind ourselves of the glory that was the 2016 MET Gala.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Manus x Machina

Naturally the annual gala/fundraiser was a night to remember with celebrities and designers alike strutting their stuff down the red carpet in a mix of bold, unique and classic looks. The theme for this year’s exhibit and event was Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Translation, hand-sewn versus machine sewn with both producing intricate and embellished gowns and dresses. Either way you slice it, the theme brought us a fabulously, exaggerated red carpet, and we couldn’t be happier. So, to those designer and celebrity pairs who really embraced the theme, we raise a glass to you!

Modern Day Victorian

Queen Victoria would be happy to know the style during her reign is back and better than ever!

The influence that the Victorian Era has on fashion reaches far and wide. Designers past and present consistently use popular aspects from this historic period. A modernized take on the era has been evident over the past year or so with voluminous sleeves, high-neck ruffled blouses and dresses in lace, velvet and chiffon. The straight-laced feel of the era is absent with the addition of bright colors, leather details and sexy silhouettes. When designers like Altuzarra, Alberta Ferretti, Marc Jacobs, Erdem, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Alexander McQueen take part, we know it’s a style to keep an eye on.

The Victorian Era is named after the United Kingdom’s second longest reigning monarch, Queen Victoria. Surviving her father and three uncles, she became Queen at just 18 years of age, reigning for over 60 years. While Queen Victoria is not directly responsible for any specific fashion trend, she is credited with the tradition of wearing white on your wedding day. The newly crowned Queen, stayed away from the status quo of a colored dress and instead went with a white silk-satin and lacy gown. A few years later, white was being praised as the “the most fitting hue” for a bride and the rest as we say is history.

Orange

Orange really is the new Black

The color of the sunset, pumpkins, leaves, fruit and flowers is all around us nowadays.

Over the past year or so orange has been seeping its way not only into our closets but runways, red carpets and editorials. Those who can rock an orange hue have been bringing the color to the forefront. Since designers are highlighting it more and more fashionistas have been taking the risk wearing the pop of color on the red carpet. Not to mention out on the town. And we at MyCloset couldn't be happier. Not sure the hue goes with your skin tone, don't worry, that's what shoes and accessories are for. Add an orange necklace or belt to an all black or navy outfit. Get yourself some orange Converse, Vans or heels and a clutch or cross-body satchel to stand out. Bright and vibrant colors like orange should be displayed more often, so lets get to it!
