Glamour on the Red Carpet

Our favorite movie stars shone bright and bold on their big night.

The Oscars: Glamour on the Red Carpet

Awards season has come and gone, culminating in a red carpet of bold yet glamourous Old Hollywood looks we just can’t get enough of. Let’s go back to early March shall we and remind ourselves what a fun red carpet the Oscars turned out to be with the women and men of Hollywood bringing their A-game.

As expected on a red carpet plunging necklines, statement necklaces, metallic gowns and beaded, sequined and applique’d embellishments had a great showing. The color trend of the night turned out to be a blush, pale rosy beige with Gina Rodriguez, Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Elisabeth Moss, Mira Sorvino, Allison Willams, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Keala Settle and Abbi Cornish making hue pop.

Now let’s get into the newer, more exciting trends; colors, floral prints and risk takers. Color and prints have been slowly but surely making their way onto the award show red carpets and we love the addition. Whoopi Goldberg, Andra Day and Betty Gabriel rocked some serious florals. While a majority of ladies showed up in colorful gowns; Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Garner, Kelly Marie Tran and Helen Mirren in shades of blue, Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph and Meryl Streep in red, Eiza González and Greta Gerwig in yellows, Octavia Spencer, Betty Gabriel and Whoopi Goldberg in shades of greens, Viola Davis in pink, and Selma Hayek and Ashley Judd in purple.

The men also stepped it up and made quite a showing. Armie Hammer sported a head-to-toe, red velvet tux while his co-star Timothée Chalamet went for an all-white tux. Armie wasn’t the only one to wear velvet, Daniel Kaluuya wore a copper colored jacket, Ansel Elgort and Mahershala Ali sported emerald green velvet jackets. And Darrell Brit-Gibson chose a pink satin jacket and black pants for the evening. Don’t worry, the carpet was also littered with plenty of tailored suits and tuxes in black and blues.

For us though, the best trend of the night was going for those bold and daring looks. Olympian Adam Rippon rocked a Moschino suit, complete with leather harness and ‘cold-shoulder’ detailing. Breakout star of 2017 Tiffany Haddish donned an authentic Eritrean princess dress in honor of her late father. 89 year old James Ivory stood out by wearing Timothée Chalamet’s face printed on his shirt. The cast of Black Panther continued their red carpet prowess with Chadwick Boseman rocking a long, sleek, embroidered Givenchy Couture jacket. Lupita Nyong’O went warrior queen in gold and black metallic Atelier Versace gown with a bandolier-like embellishment. Winston Duke defined dapper with his Etro suit and scarf. Danai Gurira mixed classic and modern by donning a pale pink princess Gabriela Hearst gown and painting the back of her shaved head. Now, last but not least, Rita Moreno for the win. The 86 year old actress showed them all how it’s done by wearing her gown from the 1962 Oscars, where she won best supporting actress for her turn in West Side Story.

Fur All Around

Ever thought about wearing a fur coat or scarf? Now is the time, they come in all colors, shapes, silhouettes and patterns!

Fur has been around since the days of yore. Literally hundreds of thousands of years ago and used by people all over the word from Japan to Russia to England to the States. As time went on, fur was not just a way to keep warm during those cold, winter months but as a way to display wealth. Then turned into fashion pieces when women in movies were sporting trendy pieces.

Now-a-days, big, fluffy, colorful and patterned fur is all over the runways. Whether used as lining or trim, scarf or hat or one of those gorgeous coats seen on the ladies above, fur is back and better than ever.
