The MET Gala: Gala Eleganza
Let’s celebrate the ladies and gentlemen that looked downright glamourous on fashions biggest night. The attendees showcased above opted for a more classic, elegant gala look. Some even mixed in hints of the ‘Heavenly Bodies’ theme, wearing a tiara or headdress, a priestly collar or just sported the colors of the evening. Either way, our favorite fashionistas brought their A-game, making it a night to remember. As for the trends, red and gold were the colors of the night with black and white making a good showing. Ladies like Kerry Washington, Lena Dunham and Jasmine Sanders rocked gold gowns while Katherine Langford, Bee Shafer, and Amber Heard went for a bold red. Then there was Liu Wen and Blake Lively, who both chose red gowns with gold embroidery. Mindy Kaling, Rita Ora, Lynda Carter, Lily Collins, SZA, Amber Heard and Amanda Seyfried donned the biggest accessories of the night, headdresses and tiaras. And we can’t forget to mention that most gowns and dresses came complete with embroidery and other embellishments.
Clamoring for some information about the exhibit, we got you covered. With approval from the Vatican, ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” will focus on the influence of Catholicism in fashion. Curator Andrew Bolton acquired papal garb and accessories like tiaras and rings from the Sistine Chapel sacristy, 50 in total for the exhibit. All items from the 18th to early 21st centuries. Not to mention the over 150 designer pieces from the likes of Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano, Balenciaga, Elsa Schiaparelli, Ricardo Tisci, Chanel and Valentino. The 200 plus pieces will be spread throughout three different galleries; The Anna Wintour Costume Center, the medieval galleries at the MET’s Fifth Ave location and uptown at the Cloisters.
CLOSET INSPIRATIONSfeaturingPRINTS FOR WEARArt Becomes Us , Global FashionsPortrait DressingArtistic prints are all the rage. Take a peek and find out why your wardrobe should look like pieces hanging in the MET. |
Ever thought to yourself 'This dress could really use some art, I know if only I could get Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’ printed on it’. Well, now might be your chance. Art-infused prints are seen on everything from jackets to dresses to blouses and skirts. It all started with the Spring 2018 fashion week when the likes of Calvin Klein, Dior, Versace, Missoni, Céline, Coach and Junya Watanabe sent artistic prints down the catwalk. From NYC to Milan to Paris, there were commissioned works by artist Sterling Ruby, prints featuring Giuseppe Arcimboldo art, Andy Warhol classics and cartoon works created by female artists of the 30s and 60s. Check out the above looks our favorite fashionistas have been parading around town and on the red carpet!
CLOSET INSPIRATIONSfeaturingHELLO YELLOW!Bright and Bold , Fun CityYellow!Find out how complex and meaningful the color yellow really is. No wonder it's been making the rounds on the runways. |
Yellow, the color of the sun, bananas, daffodils, canaries, corn and lemons. It’s the hue most associated with happiness, optimism, and amusement but also carries with it associations to envy, betrayal, wisdom, virtue, nobility, ambivalence and contradiction. It’s a color which holds different meanings to different people. Right now, it is one of the colors to wear on the red carpet, out on the town or just lounging around. With Christian Siriano, Carolina Herrera, Sies Marjan and Marc Jacobs sending yellow dresses, gowns, pants and blouses down the runway, it’s no wonder our favorite celebs are sporting the bright and vibrant hue. They have a variety of shades to choose from; lemon, marigold, mustard, cream, golden, Tuscan Sun, royal, goldenrod and cyber to name a few.
