Adrover Miguel
"“I won’t do fashion if it doesn’t have political vision. If you can express some sort of political or social awareness and also produce beautiful clothes, that for me is an achievement.”
People would call Miguel a fashion realist for his authentic interpretation of everyday dress. His theme collections are always inspired through the people and cultures in which he becomes acquainted. New York is a strong inspiration as well as his other worldly adventures. Miguel was born in 1965 in a small village of Moajorca. In 1991 he chose to move to New York for more fashion opportunities. He started creating customized t-shirts with his friend Douglas Hobbs and after four years they opened a small boutique together. Miguel’s first collection, ‘Manaus-Chiapas-NYC’, was shown at New York Fashion Week in 1999. His fashion element was deconstructed thrift-store clothes alongside virtuoso tailoring. He is seen as an avant-garde designer and his recycled pieces have often attracting the most press. For example, in his Spring-Summer 2001 collection, he fashioned a coat out of a mattress which had been thrown out on the street. His reinterpretation of classic tailoring and knitwear created opportunities for Miguel in high-end places like Barneys. Miguel has won the CFDA award for best new designer and the Pegasus Apparel Group began financing his label. This incredible designer has paved the way for new creatively innovative young designers.
