Gaspard Yurkievich
"Sometimes I feel I have touched a moment of grace."
If not grace, then certainly brilliance. Gaspard Yurkievich was born in Argentina and studied and shows in Paris. After graduating at the Bercot Studio, he went to work for Thierry Muglier, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jean Colonna. After being judged the best collection in 1997 at the Festival of Arts, Huyuers, Gaspard Yurkievich was encouraged to start his own label. His first show was in 1998. He is wildly known now as one of the best new design talents in years.
Gaspard Yurkievich is known not only for his designs, but also for his shockng shows, not entirely a surprise given his former employers. In Spring 2004, his menswear line was shown by male models who maneuvered themselves into very explicit (but well-clothed) sexual positions while on the runway. For the Spring 2005, the male models yet again surprised the audience by voguing, popping, and dancing again in a very explicit way, but also in a way that demonstrated the clothes as they would actually be worn.
Designer Facts: It's not a surprise that Gaspard Yurkievich's shows include dancing, the clothes themselves celebrate the spirit of youthful energy and streetlife. His Parisian inspired fashions are likely to be a top choice for trend-setting fashionistas for years to come.
