Camilla Staerk

T
hrough manufacturing support her creativity has become more focused on developing her tailored range and shoes for both men and women as well as the leather designs she has always been famed for. This has been highlighted by Elle magazine, who made the following statement, “What Danish designer Camilla Staerk can’t do with a piece of leather ain’t worth knowing!”

Camilla’s Autumn/Winter 04 featured more structured moody designs and a 1950s biker theme, after which she was also featured as the main star of the Danish Fashion UNIK exhibition that launched in Denmark in 2004 with future plans to visit the V&A in London as well as Tokyo, Berlin and New York.

Camilla’s collection was shown on the official catwalk schedule during London Fashion Week since September ’04, having been awarded the New Generation/TopShop sponsorship, since when her sales and stockists have tripled.

Recently, Camilla has been taken on by London department store, Liberty, as a creative consultant for their in–house accessories design team, working closely with the Liberty Brand Director.

I was inspired by filmmaker Maya Darren and Joy Division videos. It was a new rave fun statement, not a personal one. I’ve never worked with such strong colors, but it felt like a new beginning, moving here to New York.

Camilla has seen a rise in her Brands Awareness within International territories with increasing editorial coverage and interest both from the general public as well as artists and celebrities such as PJ Harvey, Madonna, The Raveonettes, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Margot Stilley, Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Julianne Moore and Helena Christensen who buys up the collection for her New York shop, Butik, which opened in May 2005. Helena Christensen’s support of Camilla was honored during New York Fashion Week in February 2006, when she hosted the scheduled presentation of the Camilla Stærk Fall 06 collection at Butik, and again this February when Helena threw an a–list Fashion Week party to celebrate Camilla’s first New York catwalk show.

The Spring 2007 collection was the launch of Stærk, Camilla’s new sole venture, and it was presented exclusively during New York Fashion Week in September, to great reviews from, amongst others, WWD, Style.com and Fashion Wire Daily, and thereafter Paris Fashion Week in October as part of the sales strategy.
